Dr. H.Tom Tamaki and Francis J. Tornetta honored by Montgomery County Medical Society with Dedicated Service Award

MCMS Members Honored

James A. Goodyear MD (center), chairman of the Montgomery County Medical Society, congratulates retired physicians Frank J. Tornetta MD (right) and H. Tom Tamaki MD (left) for their more than 40 years of service as co-chairs of the Montgomery County Medical Society Foundation.

The medical society foundation has distributed grants to non profit health-related organizations since the mid 60s. The Foundation was established in 1964 with donations from the Polio Immunization program conducted throughout Montgomery County. The board, who strongly believed those public donations should be returned to the community, established the foundation to distribute grants annually to charitable organizations that service the improvement of the mental and physical well being of Montgomery County residents.

Dr. Tornetta, a retired anesthesiologist, has been a member of the medical society for 59 years and served as it president in 1969. Dr. Tamaki, a retired anatomic and clinical pathologist, has been member of the medical society for 60 years and served as president in 1962

Now administered through MCMS's partner, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the MCMS Foundation remains a vibrant and active service of our County Medical Society.

Dr. Walter Hofman is Pa.'s most-credentialed coroner
Dr. Walter Hofman
For most people, retirement is a time to trade tension for a pension and bustle for a breather. But Dr. Walter I. Hofman, 72, is not most people. Eight years after retiring as chief pathologist and medical-staff president at Roxborough Memorial Hospital, he's busier than ever.
Last year, he became coroner in Montgomery County, making him the county's first board-certified forensic pathologist to hold the elected post - and the most-credentialed coroner statewide.

Toyca Williams

New Executive Director of MCMS Announced
With the November 2007 departure of Mark Austerberry, Executive Director for the Montgomery County Medical Society for the past six (6) years, a cooperative effort began between the Montgomery County Medical Society Board of Directors and our Pennsylvania Medical Society partner to identify a replacement. Of note, Mark Austerberry remains within the family of organized medicine, accepting the position of Executive Director at nearby Philadelphia County Medical Society (PCMS). We certainly wish Mark well and look forward to working cooperatively with the PCMS in the coming years.

The Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Medical Society, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society are pleased to announce that Toyca Williams will begin as the Executive Director of the Montgomery County Medical Society, effective December 27th, 2007. A resident of nearby Eagleville, Montgomery County, Mrs. Williams brings to the medical society extensive experience and familiarity in professional society organizational directorship and management, having served in similar administartive and executive roles within the local, regional and state Bar Associations in Florida.

Mrs. Williams, a Magna Cum Laude graduate from Florida A&M, majoring in Journalism, began her post-graduate career as a research reporter for the Sarasota (FL) Herald-Tribune, before her affiliation with the Florida Bar Association. Subsequently, at the Florida Bar Association she continued to research, create and write articles, both internally and for publication, on behalf of that organization. She gained extensive experience strengthening relationships between local and statewide bar associations and served as Public Information Coordinator. She was also involved in project and events management, public affairs liaison activities as well as committee and communications development. All of these organizational and developmental skills, in addition to her journalism and public information background are highly welcomed assets as she joins our Montgomery County and Pensylvania Medical Society staff.

Please join our entire MCMS Board of Directors in welcoming her to our society family. I am sure she will bring to our county society the continued staff leadership support upon which we have come to rely. She joins the Montgomery County Medical Society at a crtitically important time. She will actively participate in our organizational 5-year Strategic Planning process, which will begin during our January 8th, 2008 Board of Directors meeting.
Toyca can be reached at 610-878-9530.
